Aaron and Sawa approached us when they were looking to open a new cafe concept called Toki Doki to complement their primary restaurant, Shalom Japan, which is a celebration of the married chefs Jewish and Japanese roots and culinary passions.
They wanted something that connected to Shalom Japan, yet still felt visually distinct. They wanted the two restaurants to share the icon we developed for Shalom Japan back in 2013 since it captures the fusion of the cultures and cuisines.
We used the icon as a base to create a custom wordmark that pairs beautifully with icon and gives it a fresh joyful take to capture the more casual atmosphere of the cafe. This was expanded into a logo system and brand pattern to round out the system.
